Day 2 – The Great Wall of China

December 4: Mom and her new friends visited the Great Wall. It took a while to get there from their hotel, but it was worth every minute. The area of the Great Wall that they visited was in the mountains and there was a cable car ride up to one of the towers.

My mom met people from all over the world on top of that 6,000 kilometer long wall. She met people from Australia, Canada, Morocco, Ireland and Alaska. The girl from Alaska was wearing sandals…and the temperature was below 30 degrees!

There were vendors on the narrow roadway leading up to the wall. They were very pushy and kept trying to sell their goods to the small number of tourists brave enough to venture out in the cold weather.

The most surprising thing about the wall was how tall it wasn’t. You will be able to see this in one of the photos my mom took. My mom enjoyed her visit to the Great Wall of China. Maybe the next time she visits it won’t be quite so cold!
